YIF’s adventures in the land of strawberry taho and bed weather : part uno
January 8, 2012
Oh, Baguio. Who could possibly not want to live there? Honestly, save for the hordes of loud and pesky tourists from Manila (not us) and cute but drunk Koreans (still not us), what is there to complain about this beautiful little excavation in the heart of the Benguet mountains? Continue reading…
heart on sleeves and rusted strings : An intimate gig in Ateneo part 2
December 19, 2011
As promised, here are the last two winners of the music review contest in that Journalism class of Mr.Rick Olivares. We always find it fascinating how young minds, with all the distractions of technology and borderline attention disorders, be able to sit for 30 minutes of overly sensitive pop songs from a whiny, beer bellied man. Turns out, they are more perceptive than one can expect. Read on and enjoy!Continue reading…
heart on sleeves and rusted strings : An intimate gig in Ateneo part 1
December 17, 2011
A good friend of ours, sports journalist Rick Olivares invited Your Imaginary Friends to his Journalism class in Ateneo de Manila University last December 6, 2011 for their performance day special. Since it was to be held in a classroom (with less than 30 heads in the room), Ahmad took the gig armed with a worn out acoustic guitar and his heart on his sleeves. Continue reading…
YIF in static
November 28, 2011
It has been almost a year since our last band photo shoot that we thought it’s time to put our best outfits on again for another surge of fashion mishaps and un-drugged, smiley poses. We swarmed Quiapo and Roxas boulevard to achieve the striking irony of imaginary friends amidst the crowd of a lost city. yes, we honestly don’t know what we’re talking about here. Continue reading…
introducing…..ANG KABAONG NG YOUR IMAGINARY FRIENDS
November 1, 2011
It wasn’t much of a deliberation. The band just followed their instincts in releasing their inner darkness in time for the Popshoppe Halloween party. It was a scary success. and yes, sexy. the band fears that they may never go back to what people classify as “the norms”. no more indiepop for us! (insert church organ pounding on E minor here) Continue reading…
Milkin’ out (after a dose of RakenRol)
September 28, 2011
Our long-due band-bonding (without instruments or beer bottles in our hands) finally happened last Friday. And yes, the lineup was complete. Planned months ago, watching Quark Henares’ film Rakenrol was just perfect for the occasion, which was way better than our original plan of watching Twilight. Continue reading…
The Big Bang Baby Boys: Babbling at the Lower Box
March 21, 2011
March 9th, 2011. The Stone Temple Pilots came to town. And so did one-half of your Imaginary Friends, whose mission is to set their eyes and ears and hearts to the time portal that stands before them. Well, it’s actually just the massive, vector-designed, phosphorescent flower on the stage, plus the steady pounding from Eric Kretz, gut-wrenching basslines of Robert DeLeo, heart-crushing layered guitars and mind-blowing solo blasts from Dean DeLeo, and that glorious, guttural groans of Scott Weiland. Ahmad Tanji and Eric Po celebrated together what to them were an occasion so momentous, their birthdays, parties, and college graduation all paled in comparison.Peek in as these two fans chat it out, shaking off what obviously was a hard and heavy hang-up from the concert that made these boys Big Bang Baby Boys. Continue reading…
YIF in Technicolor: The “Oh, Liza” MV Launch Party
March 2, 2011
Everything that night was overdue. The video. The launch. The single.
The night was ripe indeed. Continue reading…
LETTING GO OF FAVORITES: 2010 in Hindsight (Part 2)
January 11, 2011
September 2: Oh, Liza debuted in NU107. And a couple of days later, our promo plug went on air. I voiced it.
As September 17 drew nearer, we got more and more nervous for the launch of our EP. We went full speed in promoting our launch.
September 17: I found myself playing weird sounds on the piano at the press lounge in Ayala Museum. I couldn’t contain myself. I anxiously waited for my friends, both real and Imaginary, to arrive. Continue reading…
LETTING GO OF FAVORITES: 2010 in Hindsight (Part 1)
January 6, 2011
Oh man, 2010. I guess 2010 was a good year for us, if not the best year ever f or Your Imaginary Friends. We still can’t believe the year just went by like a stray bullet. And truth be told, there’s so much we already miss.
2010 is still our favorite spin around the sun. How so? Here’s a rundown: Continue reading…
YOUR IMAGINARY TOURISTS goes to CHINATOWN: NO SIOMAI ALLOWED
December 2, 2010
For quite some time, Your Imaginary Friends has been listing down get-away plans and activities we can do together that are remotely connected to our music. It was never easy, because scheduling can be a bitch and the economic crisis always two steps ahead of our simple dreams. Imagine my gladness when—finally—we got to pin down a date where we can all be together, bring cameras and just go crazy.
Kids, it was the day Your Imaginary Friends invaded Chinatown. Continue reading…
May 9, 2010
Something sweet, singing and Swedish is bound for Manila in a few days! Nope, it’s not ABBA, nor is it Ace of Base. (Holy crap! Did I just write a song?)
We’re quite sure you’ve heard of this news already; the two blessed souls of the Swedish indie pop tandem Club 8 are coming to the islands. Yay!
Johan Angergård and Karolina Komstedt are singing—nay—letting you sing with them their classic pop ditties from 1996’s Nouvelle up to The People’s Record in SMX Convention Center come May 14th. Continue reading…
THE FIRST BAND PHOTOSHOOT
May 6, 2010
Your Imaginary Friends like simple things.
like wishing for autumn in an autumn-less country.
catching the early morn sunbeam and watching joggers trying to beat their cholesterol level to pulp.
and watching joggers in short shorts.with their hairy bitches tagging with them. Continue reading…
NEW FACE. NEW PHASE.
March 25, 2010
Die Reise ist kurz, aber Die Reise wurde gut.
(the journey is short, but the journey was good)
Indeed. And the journey of Your Imaginary Friends with Tanya V. Singh has ended. Officially.
She has recently joined Mondo, Ryan and Mitch in The Pinups, evidently to fill up the space voided by Jeng Tan’s departure from the band and for the US. Continue reading…
And We Pulled The Proverbial Plug (An Introspective View On The Pleasantries And Quiet Reflections” Event)
March 7, 2010
But nope, not THAT plug. It’s more like, wanting to get in touch with our calm, introspective selves for a bit there. So in the recent POP Shoppe!, we did. And for the first time, we pulled it—and we pulled it off.Doing unplugged versions of our songs has always tickled my fancy since all the songs that I’ve ever written were with the sole aid of a worn out acoustic guitar. So, imagine my excitement upon knowing that there will be a POP Shoppe! event in that vein. The band was also itching to test drive new songs so it was the perfect venue. Continue reading…
Virgins No More!
January 30, 2010
January 17th, 2010 was a Sunday.
Ortigas was particularly quiet; bereft of the bustle that occupied it on regular days. The breeze gave out a Tim Burton spook in the spine. And there was ultralight traffic. For the lack of better metaphors, Ortigas Center was a ghost town.
And like The Ghostbusters on their first mission, we stepped in the Jam 88.3 booth to play on Jam Sessions, a weekly radio gig that featured homegrown talent. The program, hosted by seasoned jock Tracy, airs live every Sunday, 7PM (Manila Time) and can be heard on live streaming over the internet through Jam’s website. Continue reading…
